HUGHESVILLE, Md. — A Maryland man has been arrested and cited for a DUI and other related traffic charges for his involvement in a crash that left 13 people injured Sunday night.

At 11 p.m. on Easter Sunday, Maryland State Troopers responded to the area of Prince Frederick Road at Siesta Fields Place in Charles County for a reported crash between two cars.

Investigators later learned that a Chrysler van was disabled on the shoulder of the roadway when it was struck from behind by a Honda Accord.

Police say 13 occupants, including eight children, of the Chrysler van, were taken by ambulance to multiple area hospitals for treatment.

The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as Troy Jones, 54, of Huntington, MD, was arrested and cited for driving under the influence and other related charges. He was taken to the Charles County Detention Center, where he will be held until his initial appearance in court.

Investigators say charges may be pending against the driver of the Chrysler van too.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
