GLENN DALE, Md. (WUSA9) -- It was 20 years ago Saturday that the body of 17-year-old Julie Ferguson was found off Daisy Lane in Glenn Dale, Maryland near Greenbelt.

Friends and family met Saturday night to remember the teenager and renew hope that they'll find her killer.

They gathered where Julie's body was found, and at the park named after her.

Her friends haven't stopped thinking about her so many years later.

"It's something I think about everyday. There's not a day that goes by that something - a song, somebody named Julie. It shaped the way I raise my own kids, I'm over protective," said Tracey Stills, a friend.

"We all remember exactly where we were, where we were sitting, how we were feeling," added Christy Noland, another friend.

"At 15-years-old it changes your life and it shows you what the world is capable at a very young age and it's scary," Stills said.

Julie Ferguson was a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt Highschool. She had gotten off work at the Greenway Shopping Center in Greenbelt and was waiting for friends to pick her up when she vanished.

The next day she was found strangled and her throat slashed.

Prince George's County cold case detective Bernard Nelson is hoping bringing attention to Julie Ferguson's murder will help solve the case.

"I never forgot it. None of us have. It shook the community quite a bit."

A case to go unsolved for 20 years is 20 years too long. It affects us all because we don't want anyone to get away with murder," Nelson said.

Julie's mom has carried the pain of not knowing, but remembering her daughter takes some of it away.

"I'm glad everyone came. her friends, my friends it's been very comforting," Pat Ferguson said.

Detectives are still following leads which include DNA evidence. They believe someone knows something. There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
