Police: Carjackers shoot at PGPD, no injuries reported

Police say at 7:05 p.m. at least one man shot multiple rounds at a PGPD detective.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prince George’s County Police are searching for the individuals who opened fire on an officer Wednesday night.

Police say at 7:05 p.m. at least one man in a group of at least four men shot multiple rounds at a PGPD detective. The detective was not hit by any bullets but his vehicle was struck. Officers say the detective did not shoot back.

According to PGPD, the detective noticed that the car the group was riding in had been reported stolen from Clinton earlier Wednesday afternoon. Everyone inside the stolen car hopped out immediately after the shooting and ran.

A search of the area was conducted, but police have not been able to locate any of the men. At this time it is unclear if the detective was attempting a traffic stop before shots erupted.

Investigators and officers remain on the scene and are actively working to identify and locate the suspects. If anyone has any information, please call @PGCrimeSolvers at 1-866-411-TIPS or submit your tip using the P3 Tips app.
