Capitol Heights shooting victim dies, police offer reward money for answers

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. — Police continue to investigate a shooting in Capitol Heights after a 26-year-old man was pronounced dead from his injuries. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this shooting.

The victim, Yohans Raynor of Bowie, died just 15 days after being found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a car in Maryland. 

On Dec. 22, 2023, at 2:35 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Possum Court in Capitol Heights for the report of a shooting. At the scene, officers located the victim inside a car suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital for help with life-threatening injuries and was later identified as Yohans Raynor. 

On Feb. 6, Raynor was pronounced dead. 

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect in this shooting. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.
