WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. -- A 58-year-old man's body was recovered Tuesday afternoon near Black Rock on the Appalachian Trail in South Mountain State Park in Washington County, according to Maryland National Resources Police.

The victim has been identified as Michael Joseph Mack. His body was found by a rock climber in the area. It took a tactical team and officers more than six hours to recover the body.

The body was transported to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy, Maryland National Resources Police said in a tweet.

Maryland National Resources Police will lead this investigation.
