Several families displaced after large apartment fire in Gaithersburg, Maryland

It is unclear exactly how many people were displaced from the building. Officials said no serious injuries were reported.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Several families were displaced after a large two-alarm apartment fire in Montgomery County, Md. on Friday afternoon, according to fire officials. 

Heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the Saybrooke Apartment Homes located at 200 Sunnybrook Terrace near Old Macdonald Road in Gaithersburg, Md. Around 100 firefighters responded to the fire around 1:30 p.m. 

Officials said heavy fire and smoke was seen coming from the three-story apartment building when firefighters arrived. 

Officials said several residents of the apartment building were taken to the hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. No firefighters were injured, according to officials. 

It is unclear exactly how many people were displaced from the building. Officials said no serious injuries were reported.
