Member of Navy killed in Upper Marlboro crash

A member of the Navy, assigned to Ft. Meade, NSA is dead after an overnight crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland State police said. 

A member of the Navy, assigned to Ft. Meade, NSA is dead after an overnight crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland State police said. 

The crash happened on southbound Rt. 301/Crain Hwy at Village Dr. West around 12:04 a.m. 

According to police a red 2015 Dodge Charger was going northbound when the driver lost control of the crash, crossed multiple lanes into southbound 301 and then hit a guardrail. 

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Javoria Griffin. Authorities stated Griffin was a member of the Navy. He was assigned to Ft. Meade, NSA. 

Police said the northbound and southbound part of Crain Highway from Marlboro Pike to Village Drive was closed until the investigation was finished. All lanes reopened around 3:20 a.m.
