'I just want my car back' | Toyota 4Runner stolen from Fairfax County gas station

Fairfax County Police say the suspect reached over the counter and stole the keys before driving off in the SUV Tuesday morning.

HYBLA VALLEY, Va. โ€” A Northern Virginia man wants his SUV back, plain and simple.

It's a 2003 Toyota 4Runner, has 224,000 miles on it, and is worth about $4,000 according to Kelley Blue Book. But, it's worth much more than that, because of what it symbolizes.

A new beginning.

"It's really sentimental to me because I had hit rock bottom, dropped out of college moved back in with my parents. I had to rebuild my life and that was the first purchase I made when I got back on my feet," said Raymond King.

He spoke with WUSA9 Tuesday night, less than 24 hours after his SUV was initially stolen.

He says he had dropped the SUV off for service at the Sunoco Service Center on Route 1, near the intersection of Lockheed Boulevard.

He got a call Tuesday morning, that the vehicle was ready to be picked up.

"It was like cool, cool we got the repairs I needed done. It's ready to go. It's ready for summer adventures," said King.

No sooner had he hung up the phone, it rang again.

"I got a call two minutes later that my car had been stolen. Someone had grabbed the keys off the counter at the repair shop and left with my car," said King.

A worker from the Sunoco gas station told WUSA9 they've never had anything like this happen before, and they were doing everything they could to help police track down the person who stole the keys and SUV.

Surveillance footage from inside, shows the man they say reached over the counter and stole the keys, before leaving in the SUV Tuesday morning.

King says he can't understand why they would have taken his SUV out of all of the vehicles in the parking lot for any reason other than pure opportunity.

"I'm so angry about it I just want my car back. It sucks and I still can't believe somebody took it," he told WUSA9.

Fairfax County Police confirmed to WUSA9 Tuesday night that they were searching for the vehicle.
