DCPS requires students, staff to take COVID-19 test to return to school

If the student tests positive, families are asked to follow all isolation guidance from DC Health and your child’s healthcare provider.

WASHINGTON — With Thanksgiving break coming to an end, DC Public Schools (DCPS) are reminding families that students will need to test negative for COVID-19 to return.

To support a safe return from the break, all students and staff will be expected to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test on Sunday, Nov. 27. The test must be performed within 24 hours before returning to school on Nov. 28.

Schools distributed test kits from Nov. 17 through Nov. 22. For those who still need a test, take-home rapid antigen tests and walk-up tests are available at a District COVID center.

If the student tests positive, families are asked to follow all isolation guidance from DC Health and your child’s healthcare provider. According to DCPS, individuals who test positive on a COVID-19 test cannot report for in-person activities and should remain at home during their isolation period. This includes students who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The test results can be uploaded online here:
