DC police arrest woman connected to morning carjacking

A routine insurance exchange quickly turned into an armed robbery and carjacking.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police arrested a woman connected to an armed carjacking.

On Wednesday, 32-year-old Rajaee Dinkins Mitchell, was taken into custody for an organized armed carjacking. The carjacking took place on September 18, just before 7:15 a.m.

Reports say, Mitchell was driving on Connecticut Avenue in Northwest the morning she rear-ended the victim. The victim got out of his car to examine his vehicle and exchange insurance information with Mitchell.

However, a routine insurance exchange quickly turned into an armed robbery and carjacking.  Multiple people jumped out of Mitchell’s car and ran up on the victim as he went to approach her.

One of the carjackers pointed a gun at the victim,  demanded his car and forced him to empty his pockets. While the victim was complying, the other carjackers jumped inside of the victim’s car.

Once the gunman had the victim’s property, the carjackers took off in his car. Mitchell followed close behind.

Now police are searching for the remaining carjackers involved in this crime.

As this case remains under investigation, D.C. Police are asking for the community’s help. If you have any information regarding this carjacking you are asked to call police at 202-727-9099. You can also text the TIP Line at 50411 if you wish to remain anonymous.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered to anyone whose information leads to an arrest and conviction.
