Emergency responders pulled a woman from the Potomac in the 900 block of Maine Avenue SW Wednesday night.

Two women died after being pulled from the Potomac River in two different incidents Wednesday night.

The first incident happened at the Warf waterfront around 7:30 p.m. on July 24. Fire officials said they pulled an adult female from the river at the 800 block of Maine Avenue SW and took her to the hospital with critical life threatening injuries.

The second drowning happened at the Georgetown waterfront around midnight early Thursday. Officials said an adult woman fell from a high point - not a bridge, but a high point on the pier near the Francis Scott Key Bridge - into a vessel moored close to the shore. Emergency responders on Fireboat 2 found her and pulled her out. She was taken to the hospital with critical life threatening injuries, and later died, they said.

Police said they are investigating both deaths, and did not say if they were looking for any suspects in either case.
