WASHINGTON — Learn from expert fishmongers as the Japanese Seafood and Sushi Festival returns to the Wegman's grocery store on Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest, D.C. on Friday.
The festival features fresh seafood brought in directly from the Toyosu Fish Market. Fishmongers will be honing their knife skills and preparing fish ahead of time.
From April 5-6, these fishmongers will be put to work, offering customers fresh fish that rarely leave Japan including Madai, Shimaaji, Hamachi, Kinmedai, Kinki, Masaba, Sayori, Chidai, and more, cut-to-order.
Wegman's sushi department will create limited offerings using this fish. The store will also feature Japanese whiskey and sake tastings as well as a variety of Orchids.
There will also be two tuna-cutting ceremonies each day, scheduled for 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively, featuring large tunas cut with traditional long knives (Maguro no Kaitai). Fishmongers will provide tips on cutting techniques at this time.
