WASHINGTON — A theater in Northwest D.C. is asking for help after someone was able to drain their bank account of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The GALA Hispanic Theatre was reportedly hacked on January 11. The hackers were able to empty the theater's account and get away with over $250,000.

The theater's website says its bank is claiming it may take up to eight months to recover the money.

Meanwhile, the theater says they have not been able to pay workers after the account was drained.

"We have not been able to pay the artists and crew working to bring audiences the world premiere in Spanish with English surtitles of Las hermanas Palacios (The Palacios Sisters), scheduled to open February 1," the website reads.

The theater is now asking for donations to its emergency fund.

"No gift is too small or too large," the website says.
