WASHINGTON — Three row homes in the 200 block of Gallatin Street NW in Washington were evacuated after carbon monoxide started leaking from a defective furnace under one of them.

In all, firefighters evacuated and treated eight adults and three children, according to D.C. officials.

Of the 11 treated by firefighters, two adults and three children were displaced because the house could not get any heat, while the other residents were able to go back into there homes, DC officials added.

Officials tell WUSA9 that there was no carbon monoxide alarm in the home where the leak originated and that they advise residents to make sure their homes have working CO alarms.

The Red Cross is reportedly helping those displace by the leak.
