DC Council expected to vote on 'AirBnB Bill' Tuesday

The bill would implement regulations within D.C.

WASHINGTON -- On Tuesday, the DC Council could finally decide the fate of the so-called "AirBnB" bill.

The bill would implement several short-term rental regulations within the District of Columbia.

It would require AirBnB hosts to have basic business licenses just to rent out their homes. The bill would also prohibit those same hosts for renting out their properties more than 90 days in a calendar year.

Finally, an AirBnB host would only be able to rent out their "primary residence" in an effort to stop hosts from buying up multiple houses in a neighborhood just for homesharing purposes.

The proposal has been discussed for close to two years.

Its opponents argue it would hurt a host's ability to make extra cash that they could use to keep their properties out of disrepair.

Some of the proposal's supporters are worried about developers and feel the measure would prevent them from buying up affordable housing, for homesharing purposes, in the District.
