Carjacker allows driver to grab child before taking car in DC, police say

Investigators say the carjacker allowed an adult in the SUV to grab a child from the vehicle before taking off.

WASHINGTON — New video shows DC Police officers running after a reportedly carjacked SUV in Northwest D.C. Thursday evening.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the SUV was carjacked shortly after 6 p.m. in the 3200 block of Georgia Avenue, Northwest.

Investigators say the carjacker allowed an adult in the car to grab a child from the vehicle before taking off.

MPD's Air Support Unit helped officers locate the stolen vehicle, which has since been recovered.

A video shared with WUSA9 shows three MPD officers chasing after the carjacked SUV. In the 21-second video, three officers try to catch up to the SUV, one manages to grab the passenger side door handle but is unable to get the door open. The car then picks up speed as the three officers run behind it.

There is no more information available regarding the people who took the vehicle at this time.
