Eleven restaurants in Washington — and one in tiny Washington, Virginia — have received Michelin stars in the French company's first-ever dining guide for the nation's capital.

Michelin announced the recipients of its coveted stars on Thursday. The French company's famously anonymous inspectors award one, two or three stars after multiple visits to a restaurant, and the ratings are known as career-makers for chefs.

No restaurants in Washington received a three-star rating. Three got two stars: celebrity chef Jose Andres' minibar; Pineapple and Pearls, a fine-dining destination from chef Aaron Silverman that opened this year; and the Inn at Little Washington, a famous destination for French cooking in Washington, Virginia, about 70 miles from the nation's capital.

Nine other restaurants received one star, including Rose's Luxury, also from Silverman.
