CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Calvert County sheriff in Southern Maryland says he's had it with talking about his starring role in a controversial music video.

Critics call the video by a local singer sexist and a waste of county money, but Calvert County Sheriff Mike Evans says it was all in fun.

Singer Lindz Owen is loving the attention.

"There is no such thing as bad publicity," she said.

The video has Owen blowing by a speed trap with the sheriff and one of his deputies just shaking their heads. It has her running a red light and it has the sheriff seemingly leering at her at the gym.

"That's embarrassing. It's ridiculous," said Calvert County resident Michele Stewart after watching the video "Oh Officer" on YouTube. She doesn't think the sheriff should have participated.

"You're held to a higher standard as the county sheriff," said Fred Chaney, who was filling his ambulance at a local gas station. "There are things you should say no to. And that's one of the things."

The sheriff says he's talked about this enough and he declined an invitation to talk on TV.

But Sheriff Evans says the singer paid the off duty deputy, and he says he worked for free. While they used county vehicles, the sheriff says he burned at most a gallon of gas. The singer says she'd gladly reimburse the county for that.

The sheriff also has plenty of defenders.

"I think it was pretty neat that he did that, helped someone down here," said William Cochran.

Evans just won a narrow re-election battle.

At last check, the video of "Oh Officer" had almost 13,000 views on YouTube, which has singer Lindz Owen overjoyed.
