FORESTVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County Public Schools CEO Kevin Maxwell is moving forward with a plan to close Forestville High School at the end of the current school year.

In a letter sent to parents Monday, Maxwell says he received numerous emails and phone calls in support of keeping the school open but decided it was in the best interest of the county school system to close the school.

Maxwell cited declining enrollment as the primary reason for closing the school.

Students at Forestville will transfer to Suitland High School.

Members of the Forestville PTA plan to show up at a county council meeting Tuesday night to protest Maxwell's decision.
