LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — A Virginia man faces 20 years to life in prison after being convicted Thursday for the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old child with special needs.

Darius Jones, 41, of Warrenton, is convicted of forcible sodomy and aggravated sexual battery.

Investigators say, Jones was on bond for similar charges from January 2023 when he moved into a camper in Louisa County. In May, he gained access to a 5-year-old child who is nonverbal, with special needs.

One day, the 9-year-old sister to the victim walked in on Jones sexually abusing the child and immediately told her grandmother who physically confronted Jones.

Since the victim is non-verbal investigators say they were worried the case would be challenging. That is until the Department of Forensic Science returned a DNA certificate of analysis that corroborated the older sister’s statements and received a drawing made by the non-verbal victim.

"This is a sick human being who not only preyed on a very young child but one with special needs.  We hope he spends the rest of his life in jail when he is sentenced on June 26, 2024," said Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire.

At sentencing, Jones faces 20 years to life in prison. He is currently being held at the Central Virginia Regional Jail where he has been held since his arrest on the Louisa charges.

Police say Jones was unable to obtain bond on the Louisa charges.
