Police: 11-year-old calls school counselor derogative name, counselor headbutts them

Investigators say an 11-year-old student called Small a derogative name, to which Small headbutted the student before carrying him out of the cafeteria.

LINCOLNIA, Va. — A 44-year-old school counselor is facing charges after reportedly headbutting an 11-year-old student earlier this month.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, Craig Small has worked as a school counselor at Glasgow Middle School in Lincolnia since 2011. On Tuesday, April 16, investigators say an 11-year-old student called Small a derogative name, to which Small headbutted the student before carrying him out of the cafeteria. 

Detectives have since arrested Small on a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. 

Fairfax County Public Schools has confirmed to WUSA9 that Small has been placed on administrative leave.
