Police: Man arrested for stabbing victim, trying to steal their bicycle

Police say the victim chased down the suspect and was able to get his bicycle back before going to an area hospital for help.

WASHINGTON — Police arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a Northwest, D.C. robbery and stabbing Monday.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, on Sunday at 11:40 a.m., the victim was walking with his bicycle in the 1400 block of 9th Street, Northwest. This is when the victim passed the suspect who reportedly stabbed the victim with a steak knife. Police say the suspect then tried to flee with the victim's bicycle. 

The victim chased the suspect, and the suspect dropped the bicycle and continued to run away. The victim was then taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Izat Marcus Petway. He has been charged with assault with intent to commit robbery.
