Arrest made in Glenarden LA Fitness shooting

Police arrested 24-year-old Nelson Ballard III for the shooting. The victim remains in critical condition.

GLENARDEN, Md. — A man is in custody for shooting a man during an argument inside an LA Fitness gym in Glenarden, Maryland. Nelson Ballard III, 24, was arrested Wednesday, according to police.

Back on April 11, at around 8:30 p.m., officers with the Glenarden Police Department responded to the 9400 block of Ruby Lockhart Boulevard for a reported shooting. Once on scene, they found a man shot inside the LA Fitness gym. The victim remains in critical condition. 

Investigators believe Ballard shot the victim during an argument while playing basketball. Members of PGPD's Fugitive Squad took Ballard into custody on April 17.

Ballard is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, weapons offenses and other related charges.
