FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A former Fairfax County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested for assaulting an inmate inside the Adult Detention Center in January.

Following an investigation, detectives charged Nicholas Vaszil, 28, of Annandale, with simple assault.

On Jan. 3, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs notified FCPD of an assault that occurred on January 1 just before 4 a.m. A sheriff’s deputy assaulted an inmate in the jail’s booking area following an altercation. That deputy was later identified as Vaszil.

Authorities say no mugshot is available due to a summons release warrant.

Vaszil was fired from the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office on Jan. 30.
