WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a man in connection to the shooting of 25-year-old Kwame Keith, who was later found dead in a trash can

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 1800 block of Fairlawn Avenue, Southeast shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, for a report of human remains. Upon arrival, officers found Keith's body inside a trash can.

The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy determined Keith died after he was shot multiple times. His death was ruled a homicide.

More than six months later, police announced the arrest of 34-year-old Emmanuel Lewis in connection to Keith's death. He has since been charged with second-degree murder while armed

Detectives have not released any information regarding whether Keith and Lewis knew each other prior to the shooting or any possible motive Keith would have to kill Lewis.

Anyone with information may contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
