Korean Community Service Center celebrates 50 years of helping the Asian-American community

Here's how the center helps the Asian American community in the DC region.

MCLEAN, Va. — An important organization that helps immigrants and Asian-Americans in the United States just marked a major milestone in Virginia. 

Since 1974, the Korean Community Service Center (KCSC) has dedicated itself to assisting and empowering Asian-Americans and new immigrants from South Korea acclimate to their adopted country.

The center offers social and immigration services, senior empowerment services, family enrichment services, education, and a supportive network including support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and dating violence, as well as health and mental health services.  

That support has had a tremendous impact on countless lives in our community for over five decades. KCSC says it's truly committed to listening and serving the needs of the Asian-American community.

Hundreds of people gathered Sunday, April 21, 2024, to celebrate this special anniversary gala at the McLean Hilton in Fairfax County. The theme for the celebration was “Golden Jubilee: Honoring the Past, inspiring the Future!”

The event was emceed by WUSA9 anchor Annie Yu.

Presentations and congratulatory remarks were given by dignitaries and leaders including South Korean Consul General Cho Kijoung, Office of Congressman Gerry Connolly who represents the 11th Congressional District of Virginia, Secretary of State of Maryland Susan Lee, Maryland Delegate Lily Qi, Virginia Delegate Dan Helmer, Chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Jeff McKay, KCSC Chairman Jina Kim and Vice Chairman Dr. John Kim, KCSC’s Executive Director, Ji-Young Cho, among many others.

“As KCSC has improved the well-being and quality of life of countless Asian Americans over the years, it has helped contribute to the rich tapestry of diverse cultures and ethnicities that make the commonwealth such a vibrant place to live,” said Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

Over five decades, KCSC has grown into one of the largest bilingual multicultural professional social service organizations in the Washington metropolitan area, with offices in both Maryland and Virginia.

As KCSC sets its sight on the next 50 years, they are committed to fulfilling the mission as a trusted organization, continuing to grow alongside the Asian immigrant community and embracing even more diversity!
