Multiple bomb threats have been reported in DC Thursday, as part of nationwide trend

Police are investigating reports of several bomb threats in Washington, D.C., after reports of a nationwide trend. Officials said each of the threats were received via email, requesting bitcoin ransom.

WASHINGTON -- Multiple bomb threats have been reported in Washington, D.C., Thursday as part of a nationwide trend, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed.

The threats were made areas near notable locations, including the Library of Congress and Dupont Circle.

These are the latest locations police have confirmed:

  • 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE
  • 3rd and Pennsylvania Avenue SE
  • 100 block of New Jersey Avenue SE
  • 300 block of G Street SE
  • 2400 block of 37th Street NW
  • K Street NW between 16th and 17th Street NW
  • 5100 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW
  • 2800 29th Street NW
  • 1600 I Street NW
  • 3300 Connecticut Avenue NW
  • 1900 Mississippi Avenue SE
  • 400 L'Enfant Plaza SW
  • 1600 block K Street NW
  • 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW

An FBI spokesperson sent the following statement to WUSA9: "We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety."

Police are still investigating the credibility of the threats.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's office also released a statement confirming the threats were not credible.

No further details were immediately available.
