High school student recognized for his activism in Montgomery County with scholarship | Get Uplifted

Fighting for what he believes is right and the good of many is getting us uplifted.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A high school student is helping to keep the spirit of activism alive and well in Montgomery County.

Sami Saeed, a senior at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, is getting into 'good trouble.' He was awarded the John Lewis Good Trouble Scholarship from the National Society of High School Scholars.

After the Uvalde, Texas school shooting in May of 2022, which took the lives of 19 students and two teachers and wounded 17 others at Robb Elementary School, Saeed helped host a demonstration against gun violence after spreading the word on social media and by handing out flyers. Following his lead and standing in solidarity was 500 students.

While gathered, Saeed gained community attention by delivering an impassioned speech to his fellow students. His work wasn't over after the walk out – as a student member of the Montgomery County Board of Education, he represents 160,000 plus students in the county and fights for a more inclusive curriculum and heightened safety in schools.

Fighting for what he believes is right and the good of many is getting us uplifted.
