Hip-hop legend meets actors portraying her in Blacks in Wax performance | Get Uplifted

The rapper was brought to tears at the young girls' portrayal of her.

WASHINGTON — The annual production of the award-winning Blacks in Wax was created by D.C.'s former first lady, Cora Masters Barry, and features young people portraying important figures in history.

This year, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation program switched it up by focusing on artists and changemakers to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop.

“This year’s Blacks in Wax is a departure from the previous 16 productions focusing on how Hip-Hop has changed the world from social justice to the judicial system; its impact on youth; and its influence on style and fashion,” Barry said.

One of the giants of hip-hop history, rapper Yo-Yo, was portrayed by Jazlyn Brown and Isabelle Wright.

For a full circle moment, the young actors actually got to meet the rapper they were portraying. Yo-Yo was brought to tears by their depiction of her done on the spot at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.

A moment, no doubt, that Yo-Yo and the two who played Yo-Yo will not forget anytime soon.
