80-year-old spin instructor teaches final class at gym in Rockville | Get Uplifted

Bernie Greene says he was a distance runner for many years until his knees gave out.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A fitness center in Rockville, Maryland said goodbye over the weekend, but one person was there to the very end.

Bernie Greene, 80, is a beloved cycling instructor at LA Fitness and when they closed their doors -- he was there. He taught the center's final spin class Saturday morning.

Greene says he was a distance runner for many years until his knees gave out.

At the age of 61, he took a spin class and within several months, he began teaching classes.

"This gave me a chance to do something also social with other people," Greene said. " And not only that, I got to foist my music on them when I created my playlist."

In addition to his athletic ventures, he has a Ph.D. in math and is a writer. He's currently working on a memoir highlighting his many students over the years.
