Metro unveils Earth Day artwork contest winners

Check out these Metrobus masterpieces!

WASHINGTON — A couple of weeks ago we told you about a contest for D.C., Maryland and Virginia students to get their artwork on Metrobuses in celebration of Earth Day. Now, the winners have been revealed.

Metro’s Art in Transit program announced the winning artists on Tuesday. All of the budding artists were in kindergarten through 6th grade. Customers can use Metro’s special tracker to locate each bus once it goes into service. A globe will identify each Earth Day Metrobus throughout the system.

A total of 240 submissions were received from young artists throughout the region. Of the numerous submissions, 15 drawings, paintings and digital artworks were selected, capturing their interpretation on the role public transportation plays in protecting our environment, combatting climate change, supporting sustainable and livable communities.
