DC students design and paint Nike Air Force 1s in celebration of this year's Cherry Blossoms

Students from grades 3-5 across the District submitted their artwork to be featured on a sneaker that reflects the theme “Let’s Spring Together”.

WASHINGTON — The National Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the region’s largest spring celebrations. This year, the festival partnered with Events D.C. to display shoes designed and painted by 40 students from various D.C. Title I schools through the first annual “Blossom Kicks for Kids” program.

Students from grades 3rd through 5th across the District submitted their artwork to be featured on a sneaker that reflects the theme “Let’s Spring Together”. Forty children were selected to design and paint a pair of Nike Air Force One’s in their size, donated by Downtown Locker Room (DTLR), and showcase their art.

Visitors interested in seeing the exhibit can go between Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the V Street Studio at Harrison Recreation Center located at 1330 V Street Northwest. Once the exhibit closes on March 24, the shoes will be returned to the kids.
