WASHINGTON — D.C. is getting ready for warmer weather and the summer months with the announcement of the 2024 Jazz in the Garden season.
The summer concert series will be bringing musical performances of jazz, Afro-Latin fusion, and more to the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden. The concerts will be held on Fridays starting on May 31 and will run through Aug. 9, with a break on July 5.
The first concert will kick off with Grammy-nominated Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, and other highlights this season includes a Juneteenth celebration concert with the Muneer Nasser Quintet and Caribbean steelpan from Josanne Francis.
To attend people will have to register through a lottery system for the specific concert they are interested in. It will open the week before each concert, beginning on Monday 10 a.m. and close Friday at noon. People will be informed if they were selected the Monday before each concert.
Those who are selected can register for up to four passes to the event with registration being required for all ages two and up. Didn't win during the drawing? There will be a few additional passes at all entrance gates on a first-come, first served basis starting at 5 p.m. the night of the concert.
Something new this year -- rain dates for the concerts that are canceled due to weather, this can include excessive heat.
On the days of the concert, the Sculpture Garden closes from 4 to 5 p.m. Gates reopen at 5 p.m., and concerts begin at 6 p.m.
The National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is located on the north side of the National Mall. Entrances are at 7th Street NW, 9th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, and 9th Street and Madison Drive NW.
While there people can buy refreshments inside the Pavilion Café and at pop-up bars throughout the garden. The menu will feature sandwiches, salads, snacks, and sweets. Drink options include beer, wine, sangria, and sodas. No outside alcoholic beverages will be allowed in, but people can bring their own picnics.
