WASHINGTON — Simone De Alba is an award-winning journalist anchoring the mid-day and early evening newscasts. You can see her on the noon and 4 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday. She is also part of WUSA9’s Special Assignments Unit, leading our “impact” coverage that aims to tackle community issues.

Simone joined the station in September or 2023. With over a decade of experience, she has covered major national events across the nation. Equal parts steel and empathy, she’s known for her ability to connect with viewers, and for holding political leadership accountable. She believes that journalism is among the most essential forms of public service and abides by the motto; “first and foremost, a public servant.”

She joins WUSA from San Antonio Texas where she was working as the main evening anchor at WOAI .

During her time in San Antonio, Simone was on the frontlines of Texas politics, holding leaders accountable and getting answers for viewers. She was among the first journalists on scene during the massacre in Uvalde, providing wall to wall broadcast coverage viewed from various platforms across the nation. From the border crisis to in-depth reporting on solitary confinement, cryptocurrency and the deadly Texas winter storm, she’s proven herself a trusted journalist.

Simone also had jobs as a morning anchor in Sacramento and was the only statewide anchor in Montana, where she also reported. She holds multiple degrees in political science and journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder and Metropolitan State University.

Prior to becoming a journalist, Simone worked as a behavior therapist for adults living with developmental disabilities. The special needs community remains close to her heart, and a community that she advocates for. In 2020 she traveled to Nepal where she helped establish a teaching curriculum for children with special needs.

A Colorado native, Simone has a passion for ultra running, rescue dogs and traveling. She looks forward to the vibrant community that D.C. has to offer. Simone is taking recommendations for good book clubs, brunches and the best local trails to explore.
