Matthew Torres joined WUSA9 as a reporter in December 2020. He came to Washington, D.C. after nearly a decade in television news in the South.

Prior to joining the WUSA9 family, Matthew spent six years as a general assignment reporter for NewsChannel 5 in Nashville, Tennessee, where he covered major political events, natural disasters and high-profile trials. His work earned him Emmy and Tennessee Associated Press awards, and a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for his in-depth work highlighting the opioid crisis.

Matthew started his career as a weekend anchor and multimedia journalist in Abilene, Texas and as an editorial assistant for HousingWire Magazine. He is a graduate of University of North Texas.

Outside of work, Matthew loves to try new restaurants, travel to national parks and watch documentaries.
