WASHINGTON — Leslie Moreno joined the WUSA9 team in July 2023 as a General Assignment Reporter.

Leslie’s tv career began in 2016, in west central Ohio where she spent a year at WLIO, covering the opioid epidemic and crime.

In 2017, she moved back to her home state of Illinois where she worked in the Capitol city, covering politics, breaking news and local issues. Then in 2020, she accepted a position at WRAL in North Carolina.

Leslie worked closely with long-term care organizations to highlight issues in nursing facilities during the pandemic. Her extensive coverage earned her a special award for “her journalistic integrity” and her “compassion and empathy as a reporter.”

Leslie was also one of the first reporters on the ground during the Hedingham, North Carolina mass shooting that made national headlines. She lead WRAL’s continuous coverage as authorities located victims and searched for the gunman.

Leslie’s passion for journalism began at an early age. She grew up watching local news and saw firsthand the impact of local journalism. She believes journalism is her contribution to the world.

She most enjoys talking to people of all walks of life and learning from their experiences.

“The stories people share with me, the things I see- help me grow. Journalism makes me a better human,“ she said.
