WASHINGTON — Katie Lusso joined the WUSA9 team in Washington D.C. in September of 2022.

Since arriving to D.C. she received a Chesapeake Regional Emmy award for her reporting as part of an 11 p.m. newscast.

Lusso was previously the morning reporter and fill-in-anchor for News 12 Brooklyn and News 12 The Bronx for 10 years. During her tenure at News 12, she won two NY Emmy Awards, a Deadline Club Award and an AP Award. She was also recognized by the NYC Council as a Woman of Distinction.

She started her news career at a CBS affiliate in Bridgeport, West Virginia. There, she was a Reporter as well as an Anchor/Producer for the Weekend newscasts. She also worked as a videographer for Mountaineer Sports Network. Before that, she interned at News 12 Long Island.

Lusso grew up on Long Island and attended Bethpage High School. She graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in History.

When Lusso is not reporting, she loves playing the piano, spending time with family and friends, cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers and running. She ran the NYC Marathon on behalf of the Make A Wish Foundation. She’s gearing up to run it again this year while raising money for Team For Kids.

Lusso is already enjoying getting to know the DMV and being involved in her community.
