WASHINGTON — Desmond ( or just Des ) is an award-winning journalist with vast experience in the industry. Prior to moving to the nation's capital, Des served as a college sideline reporter for CBS Sports Network and ESPN. He also broke multiple stories as a national correspondent for NFL Network.

Desmond's personality shines like Sunday morning, creating an engaging experience. He was the host of SEC Gridiron LIVE for Fox Sports Networks. SEC Gridiron Live won an Emmy for "Best Regularly Scheduled Sports Program."

Previously, Des served as a sports anchor/ reporter, locally in Dallas, for nearly a decade. During his stint in Dallas, Purnell was nominated for several Emmy Awards and won a regional Emmy in the category of "Best One-Time Sports Special" for his work on "Farewell to Texas Stadium."

Desmond brings great knowledge and the insight of a former collegiate athlete to WUSA9, having played football at Mississippi State University. The Mississippi native began his career as a sports anchor/reporter in Rapid City, S.D., where he was the first ever African American television broadcaster in that market.

Des is excited to call Washington home!

"As a former athlete, I want to live in a community and fellowship with people who care about their sports teams. There's no doubt... sports matters in The DMV!"
