WASHINGTON — Abby Llorico came to WUSA9 in March 2022 to focus on Verify content and join the Get Up DC team.

She arrived at the nation’s capital by way of St. Louis, where she reported on Today In St. Louis and on special projects for nearly five years. She also combined her loves of storytelling and food to host the award-winning podcast “Abby Eats St. Louis” — and she’s always open to restaurant recommendations as she works to eat her way through the DMV, too.

Her time in her hometown of St. Louis was full of volunteering and working with various charitable organizations, including founding a program for young girls aimed at building confidence, combatting bullying and setting goals.

Abby earned a spot on the St. Louis “30 Under 30” list, as well as recognition from the Missouri and Illinois Broadcasters Associations. She’s been nominated for several Mid-America Emmy Awards and honored with two Edward R. Murrow Awards.

Her first paid journalism gig was as a production associate right here in Washington, D.C., where she interned at CBS for a semester in college. Since then she has also reported and anchored in Indianapolis and Central Illinois, and was dispatched to help with severe weather coverage at sister stations in Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and Louisiana.

She’s a graduate of Indiana University (go Hoosiers!) where she studied political science and journalism, and is currently in a graphic and digital design program through The New School.

Stories that help make you smarter about an issue, clarify a complicated topic, or help you navigate the world around you are Abby’s favorites to tell. She’s excited to work with the Verify team to do just that — and bring some of her early morning energy to Get Up DC.

Outside of work, she’s an aspiring art nerd, directionally-challenged explorer, and full-time dog-mom to Roni and Mia.

Send her your story ideas, questions, and fact-checkable content at allorico@wusa9.com.
