Weekend work will slow all but one Metro line

Silver Line riders are in luck.

WASHINGTON - Metro track work will slow some rail riders this weekend, even though thousands of Capitals hockey fans will use the system to attend Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday.

Orange Line trains will run every 20 minutes on Saturday and Sunday for rail readjustment work. Trains will be down to one track between Cheverly and New Carrollton, the Orange Line's easternmost stop in Maryland.

Work intensifies on Sunday when only the Silver Line will not be impacted by track closures.

Red Line trains will single-track on Sunday from Dupont Circle to Judiciary Square. Trains will be slowed significantly, arriving every 28 minutes. The transit agency said tunnel work crews will upgrade Metro's radio communications system and install cables for passenger cell service.

Shuttles will replace Blue and Yellow Line trains until 2 p.m. Sunday between Reagan National Airport and Pentagon City for a quarterly emergency response drill. The Crystal City station will be closed. During the drill, all other trains will run on regular weekend intervals.
