Trains, flights cancelled, schools closed due to severe wind

Major public schools systems such as Montgomery County, Loudoun County, Arlington, Prince George's County and Fairfax County announced early Friday that they would not be opening.

The Federal Government also announced that they would be closed Friday.

Over 30 flights scheduled to fly out from Reagan National Airport have been canceled, according to WUSA9's Marcella Robertson. If you are headed to the airport, be sure to call ahead to check your flight status.

Service on MARC and VRE trains has also been canceled due to the weather. Metro also said trains are running at slower speeds above ground.

Amtrak trains, with a couple of exceptions, have suspended NYP-BOS trains until at least 6 p.m., while an update on NYP-WAS trains is expected at 4 p.m. Services between BOS and WAS have been canceled until Saturday.

On Friday evening, Amtrak also reported that southbound out of WAS are suspended until Saturday due to knocked down trees.

High winds are also causing power outages across the area. According to Dominion Energy more than 300,000 people in the area are currently without power.
