Several rescued, 4 people hospitalized following Laurel apartment fire

Many residents are now left without a home.

LAUREL, Md. — Several residents were rescued from an apartment fire in Laurel, Maryland on Friday morning, Prince George's County fire officials said.

The fire was reported at a complex located in the 9100 block of Scott Adam Court at Summerlyn Apartments around 2:50 a.m. When fire crews arrived at the scene, they noticed 3 people trapped on the balcony of a fiery three-story garden-style apartment building.

Crews from Prince George's County, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, Montgomery County, and Laurel battled the fire. Firefighters were able to rescue 7 people from the blaze, officials said.

Four of the residents were taken to an area hospital with 1 person suffering life-threatening injuries, 2 others with non-life threatening injuries and 1 person for evaluation.

Now, a dozen residents including 4 juveniles and a few pets are left without a home. The Red Cross is helping to relocate the residents.

Officials believe the fire was accidental. The fire investigation is still ongoing.
