Woman rescued after Southeast DC rowhouse fire

The woman was hospitalized with injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening.

WASHINGTON — A woman is in the hospital after a house fire in Southeast D.C. Monday morning. Firefighters responded to a rowhouse for a reported fire around 9 a.m.

According to a post on social media by the fire department, crews responded to the area of 1600 block of Ridge Place Southeast, near Anacostia High School, for a fire. 

Once on scene, firefighters worked to rescue a woman from the second floor of a rowhome. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was confined to the basement of the building, firefighters said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters did not estimate the cost of the damage to the building.
