To help prevent impaired drivers and drunk driving accidents, one of the country's top ride-sharing companies is stepping up in DC for St. Patrick's Day.

Unfortunately, 39 percent of all U.S. traffic related deaths in 2016 during St. Patrick's Day involved drunk drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

To combat this statistic, the non-profit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), through their SoberRide Program, will be offering free Lyft rides to DC residents.

The free rides will start from 4:00 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, and will end at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 18.

The free promo codes that can be used on the Lyft app will be posted on www.SoberRide.com at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17th. However, the promo codes are only good for rides up to $15 in cost.

In 2017, 460 people took advantage of this program.

The SoberRide program is also offered during Cinco de Mayo, the 4th of July, Halloween, and during the winter holidays.
