WASHINGTON (AP) -- A massive fire at an apartment building in Adams Morgan is now under control.
Mayor Adrian Fenty and other officials will hold a press conference at the site of the fire in the 2600 block of Adams Mill Road NW at noon today.
The four-alarm fire started at about 1:15 a.m., destroying the four-story apartment building and displacing residents of more than 30 units.
Fire department spokesman Alan Etter says two firefighters were injured from falling debris, but nobody else was injured.
Residents from the buildings on either side of the one on fire were evacuated and have been allowed back.
The area is known to have low water pressure, and that contributed to the difficulty in fighting the fire. Firefighters had to take the hoses long distances to tap a larger main when the first one wasn't enough -- causing huge delays.
Etter says a temporary shelter is being set up at Engine 21 on the 1700 block of Lanier Place, and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced people.
