WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) - Customers of Cornerstone Cleaners at 14th and U Streets, NW., have been shut out as their clothes hang on a carousel inside.
Joe Gross is a long time customer and says, "people got their clothes and can't get them out." Customers called the number left on the door but all they get is a message saying the mailbox is full. After hours of waiting and pressure from angry customers, the landlord opened up the doors around four Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, complaints have been pouring in to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Sam Williams is the acting director of Consumer Affairs and he says, "People need clothes to get to work. Understandably, they are frustrated these are your most expensive clothes." While DCRA investigates the sudden closure, the landlord says the business owners of 17 years were late on their rent, they had electrical and their lease was up. The business owners could not be reached for comment. DCRA is working with the landlord to return everyone's clothes back by the end of the week. The landlord will open up the business again Thursday between 4-8pm.
