WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- Mayor Adrian Fenty and School Chancellor Michelle Rhee say 14 of 17 senior high schools increased their graduation rates last year with Bell Multicultural, HD Woodson and Coolidge High Schools showing the biggest increases with 14.3,10.2 and 9 percent respectively.
Keeping an audit of every Senior's grades and graduation requirements are part of the success along with better attendance records. Students who fell behind were able to take courses in the evenings and during the summer.
School officials say 90 percent of attendance is now accurately recorded compared to only 53 percent a year ago.
