WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Verizon Center has always been a favorite of the NCAA when it comes to March Madness, but it usually entails the tournament's opening weekend games.

Wednesday we learned the multipurpose Verizon Center has been chosen as the home of March Madness' East Region. The 2013 Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games will be held on March 28th and March 30th in Chinatown.

The 15-year-old Verizon Center has hosted one other regional final back in 2006. That year, the George Mason Patriots upset the Connecticut Huskies in overtime, prevailing to the Final Four.

Because Georgetown plays its home games at the Verizon Center, it cannot be selected to participate in the East Region. But if I'm still providing online commentary for WUSA-9, you can bet your life that I'll be seated in press row.
