Organizers cancel several DMV events due to heatwave

We are expecting the heat index to be between 105 and 115 degrees both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

WASHINGTON — As extreme heat blanketed the region, organizers of various events across the DMV started canceling their weekend plans.

We are expecting the heat index to be between 105 and 115 degrees both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, and WUSA9’s weather team has issued a “red weather alert.”

Even Friday felt like an absolute nightmare outside, with temperatures feeling like more than 100 and humidity making it even worse. This is the hottest stretch we’ve seen in three years.

Below is a list of events that have been canceled. We plan to keep updating the list as we’re made aware of other cancellations.
