The Capitals have erased a 2-0 hole vs. John Tortorella before

The Capitals aren't where they want to be, but a 2-0 hole has been abolished vs. John Tortorella in the past...can it be done tonight?

WASHINGTON (WUSA) — The Washington Capitals became only the sixth team in NHL history to lose the first two games of a best-of-seven series in overtime at home, on Sunday evening.

Crazy right?

Teams that lose the first two games of a best-of-seven series on home ice, have come back to win the series 19 times in 103 attempts.

Not the best odds...but it could happen (says the utterly delusional Caps fan in me).

Alex Ovechkin has faith in his team, why don't we?

Let's remember, the Capitals have climbed out of a series deficit before, in 2009, against the John Tortorella-led New York Rangers.

Tortorella was suspended for Game 6 of that series at Madison Square Garden after squirting a fan with water and throwing a water bottle into the stands during the Capitals Game 5 win at then Verizon Center.

Not to rehash old wounds....Washington also forced Game 7 after losing the first two games of last year’s second-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins at home...

And could not complete the comeback in D.C.

Overall, the Capitals are 1-6 in series in which they have trailed 2-0.

The most Caps' thing to do, of course, would be to force a Game 7 and have a multiple-overtime loss on April 25.

But one game at a time here.

Let's all hope the latest D.C. sports trifecta goes better than the previous one less than two weeks ago...

You know when the Nationals lost their home opener to the Mets, the Capitals blew a third-period lead against the Predators and the Wizards dropped a close game to the Cavaliers.

Part of me just wants you to rip the band aid now D.C. sports' teams.

Yours truly,

A wishful-thinking D.C. sports fan
